1. Principle;
In medicine, hemodialysis, also haemodialysis (HD), is developed for removing waste products such as potassium and urea, as well as free water from the blood when the kidneys are incapable of this (i.e. in renal failure). It is a form of renal dialysis and is therefore a renal replacement therapy. Hemodialysis is a method to exchange the wate products into fluid (dialysate) by diffusion provided by the concentration difference between them. In contlast, hemofiltration (HF) is a method to push the waste products away through a semipermeable membrane (convection); a patient's blood is passed through a set of tubing (a filtration circuit) via a machine to a semipermeable membrane (the filter, dialyzer) where much higher MW products and water are removed.
Haemodiafiltration (HDF) combines elements of diffusion and convection in a single treatment modality to provide solute removal over a wide range of molecular weights. Theoretically, it represents the best available form of renal replacement therapy but uptake of the technique has been slow. This pattern has changed, by the growing acceptance of the potential benefits of the technique, the maturing technology including cost-efficient online production of substitution fluid, and the demonstration of the long-term safety of the technique (on-line-HDF).

2.Clinical Data
Long-term clinical outcome data are awaited. But short term data stronly indicate that removal of higher MW products ameliorate your symptoms such as itchting, high or low BP, cardiac failure and appetite loss that are believed to be induced by higher MW unknwon uremic toxins.
